Emmeloord, 19 February 2024 – Potato cooperative Agrico is proud to announce that it is intended to acquire the seed potato activities of The Potato Company (TPC). By means of this strategic acquisition, Agrico has taken an important step towards expanding its acreage in order to continue to meet the growing demand. This also offers the benefits of synergy, which will help Agrico to further optimize its organization. 

Emmeloord, 18 December – Last week Agrico held its annual central members’ meeting, during which the financial statements of 2022/2023 were explained and the members looked ahead to the new harvest year.

At this year’s varieties show, along with its subsidiary Agrico PSA, Agrico took a further step towards continued growth in East Africa. By signing the distribution agreement with Fraxen Consult Ltd, our seed potatoes will be exported to small-scale farmers in Tanzania later this year. It is important for Agrico to have a presence in Tanzania, because this is a huge market to which we can supply our high-quality seed potatoes.

Emmeloord, 10 November 2023 – On 9 and 10 November, Agrico held its annual Variety and Seedling Show at Agrico Research in Bant. This year was dedicated to its 50th anniversary. During the show, the new variety Fajah and the two spotlight varieties, Jacky and Lugano, were presented to the visitors. Agrico can look back on a successful show.

Nov. 8, 2023, Emmeloord - During the international symposium Food Systems Transformation, experts advocated for a more strategic and long-term vision on providing food security and the need for transformation of current food systems. The symposium was a collaboration between Agrico and SeedNL and aimed to provide insight into the issues of providing food security worldwide.

Emmeloord, 26 September 2023 - Agrico acquires Royal ZAP’s seed potato activities. By means of this acquisition, Agrico has taken a step towards expanding its acreage, in order to meet demand. This offers the benefits of synergy, which will help Agrico to further optimize its organization. 

Emmeloord, 24 May 2023 – the ware potato activities of Agrico and Nedato, along with Leo de Kock, shall be hived off to form a new independent cooperative of ware potato growers. The new organization will start its activities this autumn. Further integration will then take place in stages.

Emmeloord, 2 May 2023 – Last week potato cooperative Agrico announced to its members an average price indication of € 35.50 per 100 kg for all supplied kilos of 28 mm upwards for seed potatoes from the 2022 harvest. The price is an average for all varieties, sizes and classes supplied.

General Director Jan van Hoogen is satisfied with the substantially higher level of the grower’s price in comparison to last year. “The market has changed significantly both nationally and internationally during the past season. We are happy that Agrico was able to respond well to this, with a good result because of that”.

Emmeloord, 3 April – Today, potato cooperative Agrico started its 50-year anniversary in a festive mood. Throughout the year, Agrico will organise various events for growers, members, buyers and employees. ‘With heart and soil. Committed to the next generation’ will be at the heart of all of these celebrations.

Emmeloord, 9 March – with effect from 1 August 2023, Peter Oldenkamp has been appointed director of Agrico Research. He succeeds Sjefke Allefs as director.

Emmeloord, 12 September - Mark Zuidhof will be appointed COO of Agrico as of 16 September. Together with current director Jan van Hoogen (CEO), he will form the Statutory Board of Agrico. Jan van Hoogen will step down as director as of 1 January 2024. Agrico will again have a one-man leadership with Mark Zuidhof as CEO from that moment on.

Yesterday, the Potato Demo Day could take place again for the first time since 2018. During this day, our colleagues were ready to welcome everyone to the booth.

Agrico was present at the Weuthen Kartoffeltag in Schwalmtal Germany on Thursday 25 August. Despite the high temperatures, we talked to many growers and traders about the past and upcoming potato season.

Last week the mini-tubers storage was completed and today the first cargo of mini-tubers was delivered. The storage is located at the Escudo in Emmeloord within walking distance of the head office and the Agrico Quality Center.

AR Malik Seeds and Agrico have been collaborating for over half a century. Together they have been providing Bangladesh’s farmers access to affordable, innovative and top quality seed potatoes ever since. 

The potato crop grown in Pakistan is mostly from the potato seed varieties developed and exported by Dutch companies. We are proud to confirm that Agrico and their highly renowned varieties are considered the best among the lot.

This year Agrico once again has a number of new varieties that have been added to the Dutch Variety List. One of these varieties is Jolene. Jolene is a new variety in Agrico’s portfolio. It can rightly be considered to be a multipurpose variety, which is suitable for washed and packaged potatoes and for home fries.

Paradiso is one of our “spotlight” varieties. Spotlight varieties are young, innovative varieties within our portfolio that are currently gaining a share of the market. Paradiso has a high yielding capacity and a beautiful appearance, including after long-term storage. This variety is interesting for both seed potato growers and table potato growers. 

Emmeloord, 17 November 2021 – On Wednesday 17 November 2021, the first pile was driven for the mini tuber storage facility being constructed by Agrico at the ‘De Munt’ business park in Emmeloord. By constructing its own mini tuber storage facility, Agrico is taking the next step in its professionalization. Because of the enhanced focus on quality and the increased quantities of mini tubers, Agrico decided to construct its own mini tuber storage facility.

Emmeloord, 5 November 2021 – on Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 November, Agrico presented two new varieties during an intimate Meet & Greet at its breeding and research farm, Agrico Research in Bant. COVID-19 has led to temporarily taking a slightly different approach this year, with Agrico’s Meet & Greet. This smaller set-up gave Agrico the opportunity to welcome its customers in person, in a responsible manner, with a focus on seeing and meeting everybody. 

Agrico is currently working on research into the application of nutrients, tailored to the requirements of individual potato varieties. We have a close co-operation with Yara Benelux and Tolsma-Grisnich for this purpose. Optimizing the absorption of nutrients is the first important cornerstone of this innovative development.

Meet again at the Weuthen Kartoffeltag 2021

The Weuthen Kartoffeltag is the annual event which takes place on the last Thursday of August in a German field close to the head office of organizer, Wilhelm Weuthen GmbH & Co. Everyone was delighted to meet again and talk face-to-face about potatoes and other interesting topics in the agricultural sector.  

Agrico has worked with various stakeholders to develop a vision document about the position of the Dutch potato sector and how we can jointly successfully transform the potato sector in less developed areas and emerging economies. In recent years, the potato has become a valuable product for both the Pakistani farmer and the consumer. The potato is of high nutritional value and cultivation is particularly sustainable because the potato plant produces more food faster on less land, using less water, than any other important food crop.

Our Phytophthora-resistant Next Generation varieties Carolus and Alouette are cultivated in Bangladesh. These varieties provide a solid foundation for a sustainable and healthy crop.

Emmeloord, 25 March 2021 - as from today, Agrico will be sharing the innovation of its sustainable Next Generation varieties.

The aforementioned varieties achieve very good scores in all of these characteristics. The yields of these three varieties are significantly higher than people are accustomed to with other varieties.
