Background

Who hasn’t heard of Ranomi Kromowidjojo? Not only is she a top swimmer, she’s now also an early potato variety for various European markets. With its beautiful, firm shape and deep yellow, smooth skin, the variety has an excellent presentation. Ranomi also has a yellow flesh and good consumption qualities.

In 2002, a cross was carried out between AR 93-3379 and AR 95-0319 with the aim of creating an early consumer variety. After 11 years of selection, the seedling AR 03-0221 remained. At least 75% of Ranomi's ancestors are of German origin. The Dutch variety Arielle, also one of Ranomi’s ancestors, provides yield potential and pre-maturity.

Ranomi was bred by Agrico Research.
