Background

Vogue is a variety bred for the traditional market in North African and Southern European countries, where potatoes still often reach the end user via local traders and markets. In these countries, coarse and preferably long, oval potatoes are popular. Vogue is a cross between Marabel and Amorosa. Marabel is a large consumer variety in Germany and Central Europe, while Amorosa is a red-skinned variety popular in Algeria. The potato was bred by grower Könst Breeding B.V., who deliberately chose the name of Vogue because it sounds pleasant and is familiar to many. In addition, Vogue is often associated with a luxury product.
